Basic information

Poly-Slovakia air domes are long-lasting thanks to the effect of minimal overpressure kept inside.  Air is pumped below the supporting layer of the membrane by the operation of fans, and increasing pressure inflates the membrane up to the moment it stretches below the limit determined by the steel rope net placed below the membrane layers. With respect to 2-skin technology, the shape of the main membrane itself determines the limits for inflating the pressurised air dome. The overpressure applied has no influence on people, and you do not feel it inside the air dome. The overpressure reaches the values 250 – 350 Pa (25-35 kg/m2), sufficient for the air dome to resist wind pressure and snow weight. The pressure inside the air dome is automatically regulated to balance the actual impact of weather.

The Poly-Slovakia air dome consists of several basic elements described in detail below:

Heating and inflating system

The function of the heating and inflating system is to ensure stable pressure, air circulation and suitable temperature. The ventilated air goes through the thermal unit, where it is heated and then led through a channel to the air dome.    Approximately 30% of air from the space of the air dome is reabsorbed into the fan unit where it is mixed with fresh air. Thus there is a continuous circulation of hot air as well as a perfectly and steadily heated air dome. The temperature and pressure is automatically controlled by the system within the set parameters.

Read more about this topic in the section on units.

In case of any defect such as power cuts, the main fan’s failure or a pressure drop in the air dome, the system automatically activates an independent standby fan supplied through a standby diesel unit. The system is also equipped with detectors enabling the automatic control of pressure and temperature inside the air dome depending on outside climate conditions such as the effects of wind or the pressure of snow.

Anchoring system

The anchoring system is the base for steel rope net or the main membrane itself (in the case of 2-skin technology), which it connects to the earth.   We offer two types of anchoring  –  anchoring with the help of stretching anchors placed directly in the earth or chemical anchoring; i.e. a concrete foundation made and applied along the perimeter of the air dome where the anchors are fixed.

Door

The four-wing revolving door is a part of the air dome that serves as a main entrance, and one or more emergency doors in case of evacuation. If necessary, it is also possible to equip the air dome with a special service tunnel serving for the placement of bigger structures in the air dome.

Steel wire rope net

This especially designed steel wire rope net is an element that influences the final shape of the air dome, since the membrane layers can be inflated only up to the limits determined by this net. It not only influences the shape of the air dome, but its main function is to stabilise the structure as a whole.   The steel wire rope net absorbs the forces originating  due to the effects of unequal pressures on the air dome  such as wind and snow impact, and transfers it to the system of anchors and then to the earth.

Lighting

The lighting system consists of strip lights fixed onto the supporting polyethylene layer. The distribution of strip lights has such a form that it ensures the even lighting of every playground.   Its switching on and off is controlled, as necessary, manually or automatically with the help of a rime sensor.
